Description

The Wizard of Oz at Theatre Lawrence (Lawrence, KS). A magical stage adaptation of the beloved film, featuring the classic songs and cherished characters. Performances Dec 4-20, 2026 (Thu-Sat 7:30 PM; Sun matinees 2:30 PM).

AUDITIONS: Youth auditions (grades 3-8) — Sunday, Sept 27, 2026 at 3:00 PM. Adult auditions (grade 9 and older) — Monday, Sept 28, 2026 at 6:30 PM. Held at Theatre Lawrence, 4660 Bauer Farm Drive, Lawrence, KS 66049.

CASTING: 3 women, 5 men (with doubling) plus a very large ensemble of youth and adults; approx. 32-36 performers total. Principal roles: Dorothy Gale (16+, mezzo/lyric soprano); Scarecrow/Hunk; Tinman/Hickory; Cowardly Lion/Zeke; Wicked Witch of the West/Miss Almira Gulch (non-singing); The Wizard/Professor Marvel (non-singing); Glinda/Aunt Em (soprano/mezzo); Emerald City Guard/Uncle Henry; plus an actor to operate the Toto puppet. Youth Ensemble (gr. 3-8) play Munchkins, Poppies, Flying Monkeys; Adult Ensemble (gr. 9+) play Crows, Trees, Winkie Guards, Ozians.

PREPARE: Adults & grades 9-12 — 16-24 bars of a song from The Wizard of Oz or a similar classic musical-theatre style. Grades 3-8 — "Over the Rainbow" or "Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead" (music provided). A dance audition is required for most roles (choreography videos posted on the theatre's site); those auditioning ONLY for Wicked Witch, Glinda, or the Wizard may skip the dance call.
