Description
Spinning Tree Theatre — a youth performing arts organization where young artists with and without disabilities collaborate with professional artists — holds ONE audition for its full 2026-27 season. Each young artist auditions once for consideration across all four productions (cast primarily with young artists; select shows include a small number of adult professional artists).
THE SEASON:
• Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street — rehearsals Oct 5-29, 2026; performances Oct 30-Nov 8, 2026; ages 14-18 plus select adult professionals
• You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown — rehearsals Jan 11-28, 2027; performances Jan 29-Feb 7, 2027; ages 10-18
• Romeo and Juliet (adapted by Doug Weaver) — rehearsals Mar 22-Apr 16, 2027; performances Apr 17-25, 2027; ages 13-18 plus select adult professionals
• The Secret Garden — rehearsals Jun 7-23, 2027; performances Jun 24-27, 2027; ages 10-18
AUDITION DATES:
• Sunday, August 9, 2026, 1:00-2:30 PM
• Monday, August 10, 2026, 5:00-6:30 PM
Location: Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS
PREPARE: A musical theatre selection (16-32 measures, about 1 minute) from, or in the style of, one of the season's productions. Auditioning for Romeo and Juliet: also prepare a memorized monologue (1 minute or less) from R&J or a classical/contemporary piece in a similar tone — alternatives available on request. Accompanist provided; bring clearly marked sheet music in the correct key. No recorded accompaniment or a cappella.
Note: pay/stipend not specified on the audition notice (youth programs are tuition-free; select adult roles are professional artists). Accommodation requests welcome.
