A brand-new rock musical — the inaugural Theatre Lawrence "Striving Artists" production. Set in the 1990s, CHASING NIRVANA follows Presley Martin, an awkward twentysomething musician who hopes her band might be the next Nirvana as she navigates a love triangle and two very different dreams. Driven by catchy '90s alt-rock.

AUDITIONS: Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, 7 p.m. CALLBACKS: Wednesday, Aug. 12, 7 p.m. Held at Theatre Lawrence, 4660 Bauer Farm Drive, Lawrence, KS.

PERFORMANCES: Oct. 2–3, 2026 (tech week Sept. 27–Oct. 1). REHEARSALS: Aug. 16–Oct. 1, Sundays–Thursdays 6:30–9:30 p.m.

ROLES (ages approx.): PRESLEY (20–30, female, powerful alto — lead); SAM (20–30, male, tenor — best friend); TOMMY (20–30, male, tenor — love interest); JETTIE (50–70, female, alto — narrator); JUNE (30–40, female, mezzo/alto — narrator); plus featured/ensemble: CHARLIE, KAT, OPIE, JASMINE, ANN, JACOB, FRANK. Director: Sean Kenealy. Music Director: Anj Marie Riffel.

PREP: Sing 30 sec–1 min of any '90s alternative rock song; bring your own instrumental backing track (karaoke tracks fine). Those reading for Presley, Sam, or Tommy may demonstrate basic guitar (acoustic provided). Read sides provided at audition; low-key group movement audition (no prep). Note: this is a new musical — no sheet music; songs learned from rough recordings with a live band.
