Description
Auditions for THE NUTCRACKER, A Kansas Ballet — a family ballet production based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's story, set in Lawrence, KS during the Civil War era (Drosselmeyer and Clara liberate the Nutcracker from the Mouse King). Held at Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
AUDITION TIMES
Sat, Sept 26: 11:00 AM Ballet IV–Va & Teens Ballet (no pointe); 12:00 PM Intro to Ballet & Ballet I; 2:00 PM Ballet II–III; 3:30 PM Ballet Vb–VII (optional pointe segment).
Sun, Sept 27: 1:00 PM Adult-eligible roles — Party Adults, Lawrencians, Mother Ginger.
Callbacks: those considered for a lead role may be requested to attend callbacks Sept 26–27.
ROLES: Youth dancers (1st grade to adult) and adults. Youth applicants must be enrolled in ballet classes at the Arts Center or a surrounding-area studio; there are no requirements for adults.
REHEARSALS: Sat/Sun Oct 24–Nov 22, 12–6:30 PM; brush-up Nov 30–Dec 4, 4:30–8:30 PM; full-cast tech Dec 5–10 (times TBA). Attendance at all rehearsals required.
PERFORMANCES: Dec 11 (7 PM), Dec 12 (2 & 7 PM), Dec 13 (2 & 7 PM).
PAYMENT: Auditioning is free. Cast youth pay a $175 participation fee; no fee for adults or Lawrence Ballet Theatre. Note: this is a community youth-ballet participation-fee production, not a paid engagement.
